- When St Patrick was brought to Ireland he was sold to a man for £5. It was agreed that when he would be able to pay back the money he would be let free. The man put him minding pigs and St Patrick used to pray that God would give him the money. One day there was a big sow rooting and she rooted up a lump of gold. Patrick didn't know what it was so he asked a tinker that was passing what it was, he said it was a lump of solder he lost the day before. Patrick knew that it was'nt solder and he went to a smith and asked him what it was. The smith told him the truth, he said it was a lump of gold and that it was worth £100. The smith bought it and Patrick gave the smiths a blessing and left a curse on the tinkers. When he went back he gave the £5 to his master and he was set free.
