  1. The bread used in olden times is different from the bread used now.
    The bread in olden times was made from oatmeal. This meal was mixed with a pinch of salt, a tea-spoonful of Bread soda and a small amount of milk. Sometimes milk was not used, water was added instead.
    Then the bread was kneaded and put into a pan called a "griddle" to bake. The "griddle" was a pan with no sides on it. Potatoes-cakes were made also. The potatoes were cleaned and put to boil. Then they were peeled and put in a basin. They were then mixed with flour, and kneaded together. It was then put to bake.
