- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)On the day of the funeral, the same crowd would come again. They would all go in a line along a ditch. Then two men would come with about five gallons of whiskey, two jugs and two glasses. The first man would go around and give each person, man and woman as much drink as they would take. The second man would walk after him doing the same. Many a time, it was feared to let some men carry the coffin, they were so drunk. Often the corpse was let fall on the road, on the way for burial.
It was a custom also to bring the remains the same way as the dead person used to go to Mass. The coffin was usually let touch the ground on the bridge between the townland the funeral was leaving and the one coming next. Unlike now, the corpse was not left in the chapel for the last night.- Bailitheoir
