where the Maguire’s, The Lords of Fermanagh were inaugurated. The other marks the spot where a troop of fairies were killed. They were slain by another troop of fairies who were supposed to be living in Altnasheen. They marched across the width of Glan riding on white steeds.
    Leprauchans and Mermaids
The leprauchan is a small creature who is supposed to live in rocks and ‘lone bushes’. It wears a red cap and a red knitted coat, pointed shoes and a pointed nose. It is about two feet high but he is very cunning and knows where there are pots of gold hidden. His general occupation is shoe making and he is supposed to keep a jug of beer beside him while he works. It is said that when caught by a human, if that person lifts his eyes off him he will escape and thus the person shall get no gold. This is a story I heard about a leprauchan who was caught by a man from Legnagrow.
This man dreamt three times running that a pot of gold was buried somewhere about his own house but first he was told in ‘the dream’ to seek advice with a leprauchan
