This was to prevent the fairies taking away the body. St Patrick's cross was made for St. Patrick's day. This was made of green ribbons and was worn on the shoulder. It was kept in remembrance of the Saint. An old horse shoe was nailed at the top of the door, to protect the household from lightening. Also, it was belived lucky to get iron lost.
