Sometimes people slice the boxty when it is cold and fry it with bacon or butter. That is a very popular breakfast dish.
Potato cake is made by mixing boiled potatoes with flour and a pinch of salt. It is then formed into farls and fried on a pan. It is eaten hot with butter. Like boxty it may be re-heated and eaten with bacon. An Oven Cake is made nearly in the same way as Boxty.
Instead of being boiled, it is baked in an oven and may be eaten with butter.
Note: stirabout is oaten meal boiled on water, and porridge is oaten meal boiled on milk.
