  1. In my parish there are four forges. The name of the smiths are Mr. Drum, Higgins, O'Reilly and Higgins. The forges are situated in the town of Cavan.
    Inside there is only one fireplace situated in the middle of the floor. The bellows is a large instrument in the shape of a bag made of leather. It has a handle coming out at the side of the fire which when pulled blows the fire. The smiths shoe horses and make ploughs, grubbers, slanes and also shoe cart wheels. The implements that the smith uses in his work are an anvil, sledge, hammer and tongs.
