- People had three meals a day in olden times. They were eaten at 9 a.m, at 2 p.m, and at 9 p.m. People worked in the morning from 6.a.m without food. The breakfast consisted of oatmeal porridge and butter, the dinner of potatoes and and buttermilk. The people sat around a basket on the middle of the floor. On this basket the potatoes were placed. At breakfast and supper the people sat around the pot containing the porridge. Sometimes a drop of tea and wheatenbread were taken for breakfast. On special occasions, such as the night before Ash Wednesday beef and vegetables or fish and vegetables were eaten.
