- The townland in which I live is called Cuttragh. It is situated in the barony of Upper Loughtee.
There are nine families in the townland. There are fifty-four people living in it. In Cuttragh the name most common is Kane.
There is only one house slated, the rest being thatched. I heard my father say that Cuttragh got its name from "Splashing Hollow", as there is a valley through the middle of it.
There is only one old person in the district, his name being Peter Newman, Cuttragh, Cavan. He is almost eighty years of age, can speak a little Irish and can tell stories in English. He told me a story about Fionn MacCool who threw a large stone several hundred tons in weight from the top of Slieve Glah Mountain to several miles away. Slieve Glah is beside this district.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
