- The local names given to cows in our district are,- "Polly", "Dorby", "Maoileen", "Kerry", "Bauny", "Blackie", "Brownie", "Whitie", "Horny".
Names on horses are,- "Bobby", "Kitty", "Daisy", "Jack", "Joy bell", "Pat".
When driving cows home or out to the field we say, "how how" etc.
The cow house is called the "byre", and it is always kept clean as possible.
The cows are tied to "stakes", with chains. There is a "ring" put round each stake which slips up and down the stake.
These rings are often made from a handle of a bucket, that is the handle is curved round and joined.
The "chain" is attached to this, and tied around the cows neck.
Very few tie cows with ropes or cords, where there is more than one cow, because if one cow got loose, she would thump the other cows.
