- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)and beside the fire there is a "cement trough" for holding cold water to cool red iron. At one side of the door there is a place for old shoes and iron.
In the centre of the floor, there is an "anvil" for hammering or bending iron on, and beside the "anvil", there is a "sledge" for hammering the iron, a box of horse shoe nails for putting on the shoes, a "hammer" for driving the nails, a "rasp' for smoothing the hoof, a 'nail-cutter", for cutting nails and iron, a "vice" for crushing iron together, a "punch' for making holes in the iron, a "tongs' for taking iron out of the fire and a "poker" for stirring the fire.
The "bellows" is made of leather, with a long handle. When pulled downwards, it crushes the sides together, and therefore drives wind to the fire and so keeps it alive.
These smith's are making "harrow pins" and sharpening "harrow pins". They make "crooks" and they "weld" iron parts together.
