- Many diseases were cured long ago by herbs which grew in the field. Some of those herbs were very harmful to the soil as they spread rapidly and damaged crops. In bad land no herbs grow except thistles.
Fox glove was said to be a good cure for old sores. The leaves were plucked and the rough side applied for drawing and the smooth side for healing. Garlic was boiled on new milk for tightness of chest or bad cold and was supposed to be a good cure.
Nettle - root boiled on water is a good remedy for the measles. Water - cress was supposed to be a good blood purifier
