    pike and eels are to be found plentifully in its waters for lovers of fishing.
    In olden times when the great O'Reilly family were so powerful in Breffney, Mullagh lake was well known throughout the county as a member of this great family had his castle on the western shore of Mullagh lake. Traces of the old castle are still pointed out.
    People say that at that time, three sides of the great castle were surrounded with water. Evidently drainage has reduced the level of the water since, as it does not ever touch the front part of the traces of the building now.
    Traces of two old fort are still pointed out on "Green Island" also, but no story is told as to its origin.
