    In order that they would not tire of the endless oaten-meal and potatoes, they cooked them and used them in different ways at different times of the year. When potatoes were new, they made "colcannon". This was very nice, eaten with a fine lump of butter in the centre.
    'Potato-cake' was often made as a tea-time luxury also "boxty-bread".
    Loaf - bread was unknown in those old days. Nothing but oaten-bread was used.
