- The name of my townland is Gartenane It is in the parish of Bailieborough. It is in the barony of Clonkee. There are about 40 people living in it, and there are 15 families in it.
Stewart is the commonest name. The most of the houses are slated. The name of the townland Gartenane is derived from the three Irish words. Gort - na- néin which in English means the field of the birds.
Mrs E. Bell is the oldest woman she does not know Irish but she can tell stories in English.

is her address. Houses were more numerous in it in former days. Nearly the half of them are in ruins now. A lot of people emigrated to America and other places. I do not know of any song or saying that the townland is mentioned in.
The townland is hilly. There is very little wood growing in it. There are not any large rivers in it. There is one lake(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
