- 1)
I am a roving hackling that loves the Shamrock shore,
My name is Pat O'Donnell and my years are 84.
Being known and well respected by my friends and neighbours all.
In sweet Stradone I am well known through Laragh and Grousehall.
2)
When I was young, I danced & sung and drunk good whiskey too,
In each sheebeen shop that sold a drop of the real old Mountain Dew.
With poteen still on every hill, the Peelers had no call.
And Patrick's Day I learned to stray for pleasure to Grousehall.
3)
I rambled round from town to town, and hackling is my trade,
None can deny, I think, that I am an honest living blade,
And where I stay, the neighbours they were sure to give a call.
To have some crack with Paddy Jack, the Heckler from Grousehall.
4)
This busy tool from Castle Rule, he travels night and day
He'd seize a goat all by the throat for want of better prey,
The nasty skunk, he'd swear you drunk tho' you'd taken none at all,
As he has done of late with one convenient to Grousehall.
VI
'Twas in pretence of this offence, he dragged me off to jail,
Alone to dwell in a cold cell my sad faith to bewail,
My hoary head on plank bed such wrongs for vengeance call
He'll rue the day, he dragged away the heckler from Grousehall(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
