With the boys of my youth, loved companions of yore,
How oft, oh how oft, we repaired to her shore,
And there from the brink with a good header in
Disported ourselves liken the fishes within.

Talk of your theatres, balls, music, resoprts,
Of banquets, of games, and of horse-racing sports,
But what can compare foe health, joy and pure fun
With the river, the boat, the rod, and the gun.

On these very banks was contested the game,
Where each lad battled with might and with main,
