- Once upon a time there lived in Woodfield, Ardcarne, an old blind man. His name was Owen Martin but he was nicknamed "Owenin Peadar Bán". He guided himself by aid of an ash plant which he dragged along the side of the road. He used to beg his food from the people around the town of Boyle. When preparing his meal he used to mix the tea, milk, sugar, bread and water in a black can. Boil all together and then eat the mixture with a wooden spoon. One night he got lodgings in a shoe-makers house and the shoemaker was mending boots for a simple old man(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
