  1. 43. St. Michael is the patron saint of the church of Clerihan. The title saint is not correct as it should be Archangel Michael, to whom the church, both old + new, are dedicated. The feast is commemorated on the 29th September each year. The day is regarded as a holiday in the locality and solemn high mass, benediction and sermon on the Archangel are celebrated + given.
    44.
There is a holy well, called St. Nichalos's Well in the district, situated in Moonestown, Ballynattin, Clerihan on Mr. Hanly's land. It is in the middle of a bog, beside an old ruin of a church called St. Nichalos's abbey, which still remains. The well is surrounded by a wall and a small stream runs out of it and flows on through the bog. The water is very clear and cool even in the hottest summer. Sand boils up continually at the bottom. It is supposed to contain healing properties especially for pains. Long ago old crippled people were seen praying beside it and drinking the water. Patterns were also held there + pilgrimages to the well also. No record of such, taking place are now to be had. These facts are only handed down from the old people.
