- Long ago, it was customary at wakes to give both men and women tobacco, clay pipes, and snuff. Also long ago they used to pay old women to cry at funerals.
- Long ago the people used to bring the clothes to a pond and wash them, then lay them down on top of a flag and beat them with a timber bittle. Then lay them on the grass for two or three days to bleach.
