- The night of the big wind occurred on the sixth of January 1839. The old people said it was a night of terror. Many families were left homeless as their homes were blown down. It was said that the wind was so fierce that the trees were blown and torn from the roots. Hay and straw were scattered all over the country.
Any people that remembered that night never forgot it till they died. There is no one living now that remembers it as it is almost a century ago. A very sad tragedy occurred on that night. An old woman was living alone in a little house, the roof was blown down and she died next day with the shock.
