  1. During the penal days a priest in disguise lived in a cabin on the side of Bruce Hill. This hill is about 5 miles from Arva and 2 miles from Scrabby. The priest's niece lived along with him. The priest administered the Sacraments to the Catholics of the district. He used to say mass in secret near Scrabby.
    At last a spy suspected him and watched his movements. One evening when he saw the priest leaving home he followed him for some distance to see what road he would take. He waited by the roadside, until he found the priest returning. He then lay down and began to moan and pretend he was dying. He called for a priest. The priest came over to the man and told who he was. The spy then stabbed the priest. Before he died he told the assassin to prepare his own grave. It is told that shortly
