- One night about thirty years ago in a cold bleak December near Christmas day Phil Martan of Drumcondra was playing cards with John Hare of Droka in Phils house. Nine o clock came and Phil went out with John to leave him a bit of the way home. At that time it was the custom to leave each other a piece of the way every night.
They parted at Patrick Mc Gorry's lane after bidding farewell to each other. When Phil turned around it was said he could not see the way. Seemingly he went astray for there was no trace of him until the next day. James Martan was suprised not to see Phil back so he went to John Hare's house if he went home with him. John told where they had parted. Next day he was found by Tommy Mc Gorry of Lisdua in Barnagrove lake- Bailitheoir
