  1. A Old School
In the townland of Lurganboy about one hundred and thirty years ago there stood a very old school. There were two teachers altogether in it, the first was Master Smith and master Barrens was the last who thaught in it. They were two strangers who had not much Education, but they thought for love of learning.
The old remains are to be seen to day where Mr. James Mc Entyre's is now; They are an old sidewall and a corner stone and I guess they would stand a hundred years yet they are so firm ans good. My father took down the other old wall and he found a thousand iron pegs and slate pencils.
The chief subjects were Irish and writing with a slate pencil. The teacher had no home or no money but he used to go home with a different child every night, and an odd wealty person would give him some money to buy things and so he lived.
