    under hedges. this is how they received the name of "Hedge Schools" then teachers did not receive any salary except the little fee the scholars gave them.
    In this district there were numerous hedge schools, one in Island one in Laraganboy, Greenwood, Bracklaghboy, Carrowkeel, Belisker, and Kilbeg. The school in Island was taught by a man named Patrick Navin a native of there.
    Carrowkeel was taught by John Higgins. The one in Belisker which was held in Mr. Tarpey's field was taught by Mr Mallart.
