    then they were dried and preserved, and the bark was taken off them. They then steeped them in oil, and when they were dry they were fit for use. Before they used rushes they used to cut chips of bog-dale and use them for candles.
    All the basket-making, and cleeve-making was practically done by an old man called Sean na gCléibh who went round the district and earned his living at this work.
    Nearly all the black-smiths in this district made iron spades, iron gates, and iron ploughs, and fire-cranes.
