  1. Hedge Schools
    There was one of these hedge schools in the village of Kiltibo, in an old house which is now being used as a barn and belongs to Patrick O'Brien. The teacher's name cannot be now ascertained. When (writting) writing the pupils sat on a block of wood and placed their copy books on their knees. The subjects taught were English reading, catechism and writing. The books used were a Single Spelling Book, a Double Universal Spelling Book, Reading Made Easy and Primer. It is certain that these
