  1. There is one story which is firmly believed by the people of this district.
    One very hot Summer day a woman passed through the village of Tooreen and she went into a house and she asked a drink of water. All the local wells had dried and the nearest well was three miles away. They told her they had no water but they asked her to have a drink of milk and she took it.
    When she came out she said 'dig down in that spot and you will find water'. The spot was where the Tooreen well is now and the people believed that it was the Blessed Virgin Mary and that she showed
