I remember to hear of the old fair of Ballinacostello when I was a little lad about ten years of age. it is said that it used to be a very large one for there used to be pigs, sheep, cows, calves and horses selling in it and publicans came from Balla, Claremorris and all the surrounding towns selling drink, serving tea. The green used to be covered with tents. There used to be great fights at every fair that was held there.
There were a lot of police there at every fair. The barrack was held in Hugh Fiehallys? field in them times.
