  1. A Story

Bon Fire night is the twenty third of June. It is called St John's night.

Bon fire night is the twenty third of June. It is called St. John's night. People gather turf and sticks and old straw to make a big Bon fire on the highest hills they can get. In places they wait out nearly all the night playing music and dance round the fire.
Long ago the people big and small used to go round the fire three times saying their prayers and it was only the best one that could steal the first coal out of the fire for to put in their potatoes to have the best crops
