A good many years ago there was a man named Johnny Blackwood living in Maherennan which is in the suburbs of Letterkenny, who was enormously strong. Once when he was going to harrow a field, he carried with him a pair of harrows under one arm and a sack of seed under the other, so as to have his horses still fresh when he reached the field. His descendants still live in Mahereenan and keep one of the biggest farms in the district.
