- Hidden TreasureI heard the following story from Andy Doran of Sallybrook. He died two years ago.
In a field belonging to Mr Devenny of Dooish, Newtowncunningham, there is buried a quantity of gold. A man, one time, called William Brown of Dooish, had a lot of gold but as his wife was always giving money away to the Jews
he thought he would hide it from her. So he went out one day to look for a spot to hide the gold. He came to a field of potatoes and he noticed that there was just one top with blossoms on it so he decided to bury the gold at that particular spot as he was sure he would know it again. In about a week's time he went out again to the field to see the spot where he had hidden the gold, but, find it, he could not; the whole field of potatoes had blossomed in the meantime. He was never able at any time afterwards to find the gold he had hidden. Other people also tried, but they too failed to find it. James McCarron,
