   the teaching was different to now. Reading and writing and doing sums on slate and every boy had to bring two sods of turf every mornings in order to keep a fire. The teacher used to have to walk three miles every morning in Summer and in Winter he would go home with the children on their turn.

   Once there was a hedge school held beside St Grellan's graveyard in Kilclooney. There were no seats nor desks at that time and the children and teacher used to have to sit on the ditch. The children used on slates with pencils. Their
