   In former times and even to the present day people in this district worked charms to cure certain diseases. People had great faith in these charms and never thought of doing any harm.
   Heart fever: On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays this charm was worked. The sufferer came fasting to the person who worked the charm. He was put sitting on a chair. The charm-worker filled a tumbler with oatmeal to water measure leveling it on top with a knife. He then passed the tumbler three times round the patient saying in Irish "In the name of the Father" when the cup was in front "and of the Son" " " " at side " " " " Holy Ghost was at the back. He covered the cup then saying more words or prayers in Irish. He uncovered the tumbler then and if the patient had heart fever there would be a hole or vacant space in the side of the cup and the lower the hole the worse the disease.
