A very flourishing Tobacco Industry was carried on in Portumna. Men 70 years of age have a distinct recollection of this industry. The owner of the factory was a man named Cunningham. The manufactured plant was sent to all the surrounding towns in adjoining counties.
The factory is still to be seen,
Smuggling in order to evade tax was the cause of decay. The Smuggling place is still to be seen.
