  1. 'Twas early one morning, young Willie arose,
    And up to his comrades bed chamber he goes,
    Arise, my dear comrade and let nobody know,
    'Tis a fine summer morning, and a bathing we'll go.

    To the Lake of Coolfin, the companions soon came,
    And the first that they met, was the keeper of game,
    Turn back Willie Leonard, Return back again,
    There's deep and false water in the Lake of Coolfin.

    Young Willie plunged in and he swam the lake round,
    But he swam to an island, with soft marshy ground.
    O Comrade, dear comrade, do not venture in,
    For there is deep and false water in this Lake of Coolfin.

    'Twas early that morning, his sister arose,
    And up to her mothers bed chamber she goes.
    "Oh! I dreamt a sad dream, about Willie last night,
    He was dressed in a shroud, in a a shroud of snow white"

    'Twas early that morning, his mother came there, She was wringing her hands, she was tearing her hair
    Oh! How woeful the hour, your dear Willie plunged in,
