  1. Once upon a time there was a queer old man who had a great desire for money. He had more money than he could spend and he was so mean he would not give any of it to the poor.
    After a time he began to fear that some thief would hear of his money and break into the house and take it. One night he took the box of gold and buried it under a tree.
    Every day he would go to where the gold was buried, and he talked to himself about the gold he had there.
