- People of a past generation often spoke of a piper named "Ganzy", but very little was remembered of him except that he was blind. Bad cooks were compared to "Cócaire Gansy, d'fágadh an fuil sa tSicín." A famous piper known to the old people was George Whelan, who often visited this parish and was always welcome. He played the Union pipes with bag and chanter and was supposed to have learned some of his tunes from the "good people" (fairies). He was one of six brothers born blind. It was said that a daughter was first-born in the family and the father said he would prefer sons even if they were blind and in this way his wish was granted.
