  1. This song was written by Mr Ward, Newtown, Caragh, Co Kildare, as he was going to Newbridge one day with with a load of turf. His age is Sixty Seven I do not think he wrote other songs. Mr Ward sells turf for a living.

    About my career driving turf to the town
    I had a few load and reserved from last season
    And mixed with the colours of black white and brown

    Now the turf it was dry and they say it was handy
    The figure was five every sod like a hone
    And I wiped there eyes with the wigs and the ciarawns
    And I made a few halfpence that I called my own
