- The marriages generally took place around in the month of January and March. They used to take place the same time long ago and most of all around Shrove Tuesday sometimes called salting Tuesday or Seraft. Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday on this day the people used to throw salt or bran or meal on the unmarried people to help them fresh during Lent.
