    have to take the dash a while before he'd go out, because it is said that they would bring the butter with them otherwise. That custom is still in vogue up to the present day. When either a man or woman comes in to the house they take a while of the churn.
    In those days the women were very clean. They used to wear white aprons for the purpose of taking out the butter. They used to take it out with their hands, and wash it thoroughly. Then they put salt on it. Some of them used to make excellent butter, just as good as at present.
    There are other kinds of churn. There are foot churns, and ones that they turn by the hand. They twist the dash and round with their hands. They continue that until butter comes on the milk. Then they take the buttermilk away from the
