- The nearest fair to us are held in the towns of Tallow, Lismore and Fermoy. They are held once a month each has its own day. Tallow the last Thursday, Lismore the second Wednesday, they are for cattle and sheep, the last Monday for pigs.
Tallow has a horse fair once a year. Fermoy has a horse fair quarterly.
Long ago fairs were held in villages bit only once a year and that was a great day of amusement and fun and feasting and drinking and fighting.
At Bartlemy about 10 miles from Fermoy, one of the most famous horse fairs in the south of Ireland used to be held once a year.
Bartlemy is only a village and the fair is almost the thing of the past now.
