    About two hundred and fifty years ago our ancestors were taught in hedge schools because there were no national schools erected at that time. The law did its best to let our ancestors grow up in ignorance and that is the reason why the people erected hedge schools. There was one erected Killure in the land of Stephen Donnelley. The teacher of the hedge school was Thomas Burns. The teacher and his pupils used to meet under the shelter of a hedge or in some miserable little cabin without even a chair to sit on or any desk to leave their copies on but a piece of rock.
