1. The Potato Crop

   Although a great deal of potatoes are not planted in this country the farmers could not do without them because it is the principal food that they eat. Cattle hens pigs eat potatoes. In this locality the farmers plant about an acre of potatoes. First the farmers score the groud and then they put out the manure an it is spread. Then they plough the land. Next they cut the seed potatoes and when they have enough seed potatoes cut they go out to the field and the seed is dropped on the manure. Then they turn the sods and then they put a bit in the heart that means to put a bit of clay in the middle of the ridge where the two sods did not meet.

   After a month or so when the stalks rise the farmers mould the potatoes. After the stalks have grown to a foot the farmers get blue stone and soda and water and they get a barrel and they put all into the barrel and
