  1. This song was composed by a past pupil of this school named John Burns. He was reared in Magurk and at present he is an aviator in the (Royal) Air Force in America. While visiting his friends one time he composed this song as follows.
Oh sweet Lough Gill as I must call you,
For thou are so pure and fair
The sweetest lake in Leitrim County
    Just three miles from Drumahair.
    II
The hills that abound around you
    Surpasses for beauty alone
The richest gems you ever gazed on
Or even the most precious stone
    III
In days of old we are told
    You might have honoured them
The noblest of the Irish races
    Was O'Rourke of the glen.
    IV
    He fought the battle bravely
    And gladly did his work
And left to us a monument
    His table near Magurk.
