    Roinn Roinn Postáil
    Long ago the people made their own candles. They went out to the field and cut the thickest and longest rushes. They peeled off all the skin except all one small piece at the back which was left to strengthen the candle, they got some tallow fat and dipped them in it. There were other candles made from resin. Some of the resin was got from dale trees. This was melted in a griset and rolled out on a slate or flag and shaped like a candle, people made candlesticks for the rush by painting a piece of a stick and sticking it in a sod of turf they then split the top of the stick and set the candle into it.
