- Various bands of tinkers come around this parish. The best known of them are the Wards, the McDonaghs, the Mongans, Sweeneys, and Cawleys. The above families of tinkers have been coming for generations and are now as numerous as ever. They own horses and asses and have spring-carts. The men make articles of tin and sell them. The women and children look for alms such as money, potatoes, meal, flour, or any other kind of foods. They gather food in woods and bogs, and catch hares and rabbits with hounds(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
