- There was a man named King Walking beside Drumada Lake between Mayo Abbey and Claremorris. He saw a mermaid walking beside the Lake. He took her away with him to his home. She warned him that if ever she went near the lake, she would be dragged into it, and never return. He was careful not to let her go near it. One day King was at the fair of Claremorris and his wife needed water for washing. She went to the lake and was forced to enter it and become a mermaid again. The present family of Kings attending this school are descendants of this mermaid. Their father is said to be a great grand-child of the mermaid concerned - agus tá a shliocht ortha.
