    bellows, but being kept in a fixed position, it can be worked by the hand. The bellows was generally made locally by hand in the past, but can now be ordered through a hardware merchant and are mostly machine-made.
    The principal tools the smith uses are the sledge, hammer, rasp and the anvil. The smith shoes all our horses, donkeys, and mules; and used to formerly be employed in making most iron farm implements such as spades, shovels, pick-axes, harrow-pins etc.
    Some of the smith's work has to be done in the open air as for instance the "shoeing" of wheels for vehicles. For this
