- A few years ago the farmer's wives were making butter in the churns. There are two handles in them one at each head. There is also a mouth in the churn to put the cream in. There is an iron plate on top to keep it from spilling. We have no churn at home. Two people are supposed to make a big churn and it would take two hours to make it. It is made during all the Summer until the Winter comes and then the milk is scarce. There is no butter making now since the creamery opened.
